DAYS360 Function
DAYS360 is an Excel function that calculates the number of days between two dates, regarding that each month is composed of 30 days. One of my friends shared his formula of calculating the correct interval. This is the way Bloomberg system calculates DAYS360 style date intervals.

Something to Contribute :: Software

In this section, I'll share some of my software programs and projects. Maybe some games or lightweight applications.

The first program, eptaxia the game was already published in 21st August.

I've been writing computer programs since I was thirteen, and I love programming. I think it's one of the best ways to make a contibution in some ways. In fact I regret all these years that I kept myself sharing my programs and ideas.

Also, you'll find useful eBooks and article.
Quit Watch

A Cute Little Application to Help You Quit Smoking
June 2008

Main Screen of QuitWatch (PocketPC Version)
Main Screen of QuitWatch (PocketPC Version)

I've smoked for over 10 years. At first, it was a mild pleasure, a nasty little bad habit. But I later realized that it's no other than a fatal addiction. Like other addictive abusive materials, it's very hard to quit smoking.

At the point when I decided to quit, I was 33 and I was smoking 2 packs-a-day. I had already difficulty in breathing, especially in the mornings. I had 4 serious quit attempts. On my 4th and 5th attempts, I wrote this little application for PocketPC and used with my old Fujitsu Loox 600. I worked wonders for me.

So I decided to share with the world. The PocketPC version is available commercially, but here I give away the Desktop version for free. If you find the program useful and if you have a PocketPC, you can purchase it and use it wherever you go. This way, it'll be even more useful.

Good luck!

eptaxia - the game

eptaxia the game

Here I present my first program. It's a simple game : eptaxia. This was an old mind game I used to play since I was in high school (in boring classes). I don't know it's real name.

There's a setup package that you can easily install. Also, you can get the source codes of the program.

Kalman Filter for Dummies

A Mathematically Challenged Man's Search for Scientific Wisdom
March 2009

Trying to learn Kalman Filter may cause frustrationWhen I started doing my homework for Optimal Filtering for Signal Processing class, I said to myself :"How hard can it be?". Soon I realized that it was a fatal mistake.

The whole thing was like a nightmare. Nothing made sense. The equations were composed of some ridiculously complex superscripted and subscripted variables combined with transposed matrices and untransposed some other stuff, which are totally unknowable to most of us.

And then, instead of aiming for the homework, I decided first fully concentrating on Kalman Filter itself. This article is the result of my couple of day's work and reflects the slow learning curves of a "mathematically challenged" person. If you're humble enough to admit that you don't understand this stuff completely, you'll find this material very enlightening.

So, enjoy it!

Quest for Ideal Notebook Bag

A review of Crumpler Notebook Bag - Wee Bee
August 2007

I'm not sure whether it's a common problem for notebook owners, but "finding the right notebook bag" was a great challenge for me.

After I experienced this bag, I felt that I found the right thing for me.

In this review I tried to express my experiences with it.

e-Books

I was once, one of the people who think that the digital books will never replace the joy of reading a real paper book.

It may be true to some extent. But the convenience of reading digital books is so enormous that, I simply starting to ignore the setbacks.

I personally prefer MS Reader to Acrobat Reader for:

- True type font and easy reading
- The aid of dictionary (it's very important for non-native English speakers like me)
- Portability to Pocket PC platform

Here, I want to share e-books. In general, I'll share e-books that I'll create by myself. I also will write an article on "How to create your own e-books".

In order to read LIT files, you should install Microsoft Reader. You can read the books I deliver and thousands of other titles with MS Reader.

There's even a version for PocketPC's, which is my favorite way of reading e-books.

Go, get and install if you don't already have it.
